With the help of Americorp*VISTA workers and recruited volunteers, Longview Community Ministries' Learning Lab offers families assistance with
- basic "life skills" (balancing a checkbook, basic banking, budgeting, stretching their food dollar, filling out job applications, writing resumes and cover letters)
- remedial computer skills (basic keyboarding, windows, mouse, click and point skills) essential in job searches or further job training
- "soft skills" important in job retention (importance of being on time, getting along with coworkers, anger management, showing initiative, importance of not missing work, etc.).
Volunteers are invaluable to the success of this program.
Volunteer training will be provided in the following areas:
- Assisting students with basic keyboarding and computer tutorial programs. This software is user friendly, and volunteers, as facilitators, would provide guidance and reassurance.
- Leading basic life skills and "soft" job skills classes.
If you have an interest in these areas, or would like more information, please email lcmlambing@cablelynx.com for more information.
