Coats-for-Kids-2008-004Coats for Kids is an annual event to provide warm coats for school age children. Each November, Broughton Recreational Center is transformed into a "coat store" so the experience will be fun while providing winter warmth.

Where do the coats come from?

Participating dry cleaners collect donated new and gently used coats from the public and unclaimed coats from schools. Hats, gloves and jeans have been added to ensure that kids stay warm.

Area retailers sell coats at a discount to LCM so all sizes are available on the "Coats for Kids" day.

Who can participate?

Anyone with a school age child can participate. The child must be present to receive a coat.

How can I help?

You can help with the Coats for Kids program by collecting gently used coats or jeans during the year, especially small child sizes, and donating them at designated cleaners in October. A list of participating cleaners will be published in September.

You can also help by sorting and organizing the donated clothing and for creative types with retail experience, creating the "store" for the shopping experience.
