February 7, 2010

Thank You! Thank You!

Over 30 local churches, businesses, organizations, and individuals participated in Longview Community Ministries’ fourth annual “Souper” Bowl Sunday last week, collecting approximately 10,500 food items.  Proceeds from the food drives were donated to the ministries’ Food Box, Longview’s largest food pantry.

The winner of the church competition was Winterfield United Methodist with 1,600 food items.  Second, third, and fourth place went to: LifeBrige Christian Center---1400; Alpine Church of Christ---1025; and First Methodist Church---892.  Other participating churches included Alpine Presbyterian Church, Centre Presbyterian Church, Crossroads Community Church, Fellowship Bible, First Christian Church, First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, First Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian, Greggton First Baptist Church, Greggton United Methodist Church, Gum Springs Christian Church, Holy Trinity Church, Mobberly Baptist Church, New Beginnings Baptist Church, Oakland Heights, St Mary’s Catholic Church, Summerfield United Methodist Church, Trinity Baptist church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Unitarian Fellowship of Longview and Valley View Baptist Church.

LCM appreciates the local churches and people of the community who help stock the Food Box. The need of the hungry in Longview is great and increasing.  In 2009, over 30,000 (thirty thousand) bags of food were given to the underprivileged in our community.
