LCM kicks off "Souper" Bowl Sunday activities this week. The mission of the annual event is to encourage our community to join the fight against hunger and poverty. Groups and individuals celebrating the "Souper" Bowl will collect canned goods and non-perishable foods for the Food Box of LCM.

The Food Box is the largest food pantry is the largest food pantry in Longview and served approximately 16,000 families in 2010, distributing over 31,000 bags of food.

For individuals hosting parties in their homes and businesses, LCM will deliver collection boxes and signage to encourage the festivities and donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items.

Longview churches participating in "Souper" Bowl Sunday have the opportunity to join in some friendly competition with other area churches, beginning with a "pre-game" warm-up on Sunday, January 29th. The competition runs through Super Bowl Sunday on February 5th. Winners will be announced the following week.

Anyone wanting to turn a Super Bowl party into a "Souper" Bowl Party please contact Lisa Simmons at Longview Community Ministries, 903-753-3561 ext. 207, for more information or to make arrangements for delivery of boxes and signage.
